Common Boiler Problems and What Causes Them
Chances are you’re already relying more heavily on your home heating system now that the temperature has started to drop and you’re likely counting on it to last through the winter. In that case, be sure to be on the lookout for any problems that might arise!
If you’re using a boiler to heat your New Jersey home, here are some indications of an underlying issues or potential probles to keep an eye out for, and what could be causing them.
Radiators do not heat
If you notice that the radiators throughout your home aren’t heating up entirely or at all, it may be due to a buildup of air, rust in the pipes, or an issue with the pump not circulating hot water properly. If it's a buildup of air, you can try to bleed the radiator or call for service. The other issues will require a technician to assess the causes and recommend any needed repairs.
Noisy boiler
A noisy boiler is often caused by a buildup of limescale in the heat exchanger. Banging, gurgling, rumbling or whistling pipes can be caused by a buildup of limescale or air in the system.
Leaking or dripping
If puddles of water constantly appear around the boiler, it’s a sign that there are either loose connections inside the boiler or broken parts that are allowing water to leak out. You will need a service technician to repair most boiler leaks, and possibly a plumber, if the leak is in the pipes.
Losing pressure
When a boiler constantly loses pressure, it’s usually caused by a water leak. Keep an eye out for any puddles! If you don’t notice any leaking, there could also be a problem with the equipment’s expansion vessel.
